Secretary of Bangkok announced a plan to improve the Saen Saep canal

Secretary of Bangkok, Rachada Dhanadirek, announced the continuation of the plan for improving the Saen Saep canal and the surrounding infrastructure.

The process of improving Bangkok’s canal system started in 2018. Until now, the project has cost over 82.5 billion baht. Saen Saep Canal plays an important role in water transportation and drainage to solve the inundation problems in the city. However, due to the pandemic and the global economic downturn, some of the improvement processes had to be postponed.

Ms.Rachada Dhanadirek announced three main goals the government hopes to accomplish with this project, create better stations for boats to pick up and drop off passengers, create wider and safer routes for pedestrians, and finally improve the infrastructure by adding new technologies that help to keep the canal clean and safe.

“In the end, the Improvement of the canal will not only eliminate the sewage problems but also improve the health of locals, the transportation and even to make this canal become a new tourist attraction in Bangkok’” added Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime minister.
