The future of Novak Djokovic is still uncertain. The Australian government does not make exceptions

Date:

Novak Djokovic is not yet sure if he will be allowed to stay in Australia to challenge for the title that would define him as the best player in the world. The tennis world awaits the Australian Government’s decision regarding the deportation of the player.

Migration Minister Alex Hawke decided to prolong the Government’s decision after a detailed analysis of the evidence presented by the tennis player’s lawyers.

The tennis player has been detained for more than a week in a hotel after Australian Border Force officials seized his passport for entering without meeting the requirements that the country demands of him. Novak Djokovic is well known for his anti-vaccine thinking and his lack of concern for security measures.

“Mr. Djokovic’s lawyers have recently provided lengthy further submissions , and supporting documentation said to be relevant to the possible cancellation of Mr. Djokovic’s visa”, a spokesman for Mr. Hawke said.

The discrepancies in Djokovic’s immigration form are very evident. The professional player claimed not to have been to other countries in the weeks before he arrived in Australia, however, there is photographic evidence of the falsity of his statements.

Jokovic has denied he was trying to mislead the government on the form, stating an agent had made an “administrative mistake” while filling out the form.

The Serbian player also published on his social networks videos and photos in different countries, in many of them without respecting social distancing or the use of the mask. It is worth noting that on December 16 the tennis player tested positive for COVID-19.

The controversy surrounding the decision over whether Djokovic could still be deported comes just four days before the start of the Australian Open.

Since he was freed from immigration detention on Monday, Djokovic has been training at Melbourne Park.

Djokovic is looking to win a record 21st Grand Slam title when the Australian Open begins on Monday.
