Date:

On January 17, Thailand confirmed its first death by Omicron. Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), reported that the victim was an 86-year-old woman from Khlong Hae sub-district, Hat Yai district. The deceased woman did not receive her last booster shot.

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), affirmed that the victim suffered Alzheimer’s and did not complete the vaccination scheme. Dr. Opas reminded the population that the elderly with chronic diseases are the most vulnerable to the virus.

Dr. Opas said Thailand logged nine new Covid-19 fatalities in total on Sunday, the first time in the last months the toll has dropped into single figures.

He attributed this fall to the number of fully vaccinated people now and added that the number of patients suffering from severe symptoms was also following the same downward trend.
