Hua Hin coping with floods by removal of weeds, dredging drainage channels

Date:

More awareness of cleaning drainage channels to alleviate floods has been raised in Hua Hin, led by the local authorities and Royal Volunteer Project.

On March 25, 2022, General Krit Phuangwalaisin, Hua Hin District Chief, led the head of government, all sub-district administrative organizations, Hua Hin police stations, teachers and students of Wang Klai Kangwon Vocational College, village headmen, village headmen, and volunteer people, with a machine, to collect water hyacinths and more weeds from the water around the public water storage pond, Village No. 1, Ban Nong Phran Tuk, Thap Tai Subdistrict, Hua Hin District. At the present, it appears to have rain continually in the Hua Hin district. In some areas, water obstructions such as weeds and water hyacinths are abundant, making drainage or water flow inconveniently. As a result, some areas lead to flooding, causing people in those areas to suffer or have a hard time living. With this regard, Hua Hin District has organized the Royal Volunteer Project. together to eliminate weeds, sewage, and weeds in water sources to prevent further flooding problems.

While Mr. Jeerawat Prahmanee, Permanent Secretary of Hua Hin Municipality, along with Mr. Kanyuth Kuyukham, Director of the Office of Technician, Mr. Permpol Kunteethong, Director of Public Works Division, along with the Office of Engineer, brought machinery to dredging drainage roads on the way up to Khao Hin Theun in Hua Hin Municipality to allow water to flow easily to prevent flooding. This is considered as a preparation for flood prevention. Although at the moment there is still very little rainfall in the area, it is predicted that in the next 2-3 months, there may be heavy rainfall causing flooding problems in the municipality of Hua Hin. Therefore, there must be measures to prevent problems. If there are weeds blocking drainage ditches, the officers must expedite the dredging process. At the same time, lawnmowers were brought in to cut the grass on both sides of the road so as not to obstruct the water flow.

As located somewhat at the beginning of the southern part of Thailand, Hua Hin encounters rain a lot throughout the year. On top of this, housing estates and communities stand in low-lying areas. With existing drainage issues, residents suffer a lot when floods come. The authority has been implementing approaches to take care of the issue; however, no concrete results can be yet seen.
