The Prachuap Governor seriously ordered the arrest of fake Pala-U durian sales with not more than 3 years of imprisonment and/or a not more than 60,000 baht worth fine.

At 16.00 on April 26, 2022, Acting Major Adisak Noisuwan, Deputy Governor Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, along with Mr. Polkit Phuangwalaisin, Hua Hin Sheriff, Mr. Watchara Kamphon, Head of Huai Sat Yai Subdistrict Administrative Organization Agriculture, Prachuap Province Provincial Commerce Department, Hua Hin Police Station and the Ministry of Public Health inspected the stalls selling Pala-U durians at the edge of the Cha-am-Pranburi Bypass Road, Thap Tai-Hin Lek Fai Subdistrict according to the order of Mr. Sathien Charoenyaen, Prachuap Governor. After receiving complaints from tourists that there was a fraudulent use of durians from other places with a sticker to disguise it as a Pala-U durian, a famous species in Huai Sat Yai Subdistrict with a delicious taste, a good price, and high demand by consumers, the investigation and suppression were conducted and the authorities were able to arrest 1 shop and prosecute the offense of defrauding people with imprisonment for not more than 3 years and/or a fine of not more than 60,000 baht.

Acting Major Adisak said that tourists were complaining that they bought durian at an expensive price, but not Pala-U durians. The president of the Huai Suat Yai Subdistrict Administrative Organization confirms that at this time, Pala-U durians have not yet been released, yet. Therefore, it is clear that those durians were from somewhere else. As Prachuap governor is seriously concerned about this matter, cooperation from entrepreneurs to help maintain the reputation of the country by stopping deceiving consumers is urged.

Mr. Watchara said that fraudulent sales of Pala-U durians to the public have inflicted huge damage that affects the confidence in taste because consumers who eat durians that are not Pala-U ones would know that the taste is not, causing the La-U people to lose their reputation. The Hua Hin Sheriff emphasized the measures very strictly on quality by coordinating with the district agriculture to bring out the order from the city governor that issued measures on consumer protection to protect the Huai Sat Yai and Pala-U durian cooperatives.
