4009 Surat Thani Line – Expansion of Ao Luek District and Ban Na San will be completed on May 2023

Sarawut Songsiwilai, director-general of the Department of Highways (TLS), revealed that the Road Construction Office 1 has carried out a construction project: Highway No. 4009, Surat Thani – Ao Luek District, between 18+000 km and 41+000 km, a total distance of 23 kilometers.

The project’s starting point is in the area of ​​Ban Soi Sip School, Khun Thale Subdistrict, and Mueang Surat Thani District; and ends at Na San District, Surat Thani Province. It will be expanding from 2 traffic lanes to a standard 4 lane extra-level road (two traffic lanes on each side) with asphalt concrete. The traffic lanes are 3.50 meters in width; the shoulders are the same type as the outer road surfaces, 2.50 meters in width, inside width is 0.70 meters. The junction is constructed of concrete pavement 25 centimeters thick; each traffic surface is 3.50 meters wide. There is an island in the middle which lifts and divides traffic lanes with barriers. Double-sided concrete is based on the construction of 6 concrete bridges across the canals, and a highway pavilion on both sides with 21 capacities. The lighting throughout the line will be installed, including equipment providing various safety measures according to the standards of the Department of Highways. The project budget is 1,113.164 million baht.

At present, the construction is progressing by more than 50%; it is expected to be completed around May 2023. National Highway No. 4009, Surat Thani Highway No. 4 (Ao Luek) has a starting point from Saeng Phet Intersection, Mueang District, Surat Thani Province, cuts to the south through Ban Na San District, Wiang Sa District, Phra Saeng District, Surat Thani Province Plai Phraya District and Ao Luek District Krabi province, end at National Highway No. 4 is approximately 145 kilometers long.

This project is part of major highways to transport goods and travel in the southern region. The route in Surat Thani province is about 114 kilometers, and in Krabi province is about 31 kilometers. It connects Phang Nga Province, Phuket, and important tourist attractions such as Khamin Cave, Ban Na San District, Surat Thani Province, Than Bok Khorani National Park, Ao Luek District Krabi Province, etc. If the project is completed, it will also help the framework of the communication system and increase the support for the traffic volume to improve road safety and the safety of travelers.
