High seas flooding in Krabi, the highest in 10 years

Date:

On May 18, villagers in Tha Lay community, village No. 1, Khlong Prasong sub-district, Mueang Krabi district, had to move their pets and belongings to higher ground to avoid damage from rising sea water. People’s houses along the coast are flooded as well as the road. The area of rice fields is more than 200 rai, but fortunately, villagers finished harvesting rice early and are preparing for a new cycle of harvesting.

Villagers said this high sea level was the worst in 10 years, which caused some people to move their belongings in time. Electrical appliances and long-tail boats were damaged. In addition, the high sea water eroded the dam line and the ground along the park of Krabi Municipality was damaged. A distance of more than 100 meters is being assessed for damage.

Mana Nuanwan, director of the Regional Directorate of Krabi Port, issued a warning to the public. Coastal residents should move their belongings, pets and safety in the next 2 to 3 days due to the rising sea level. This is the highest flooding in 10 years.
