Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, recently traveled to Mukdahan province to check on local water management initiatives as the country’s northern regions enter their dry season.
The first stops on his journey were at the Huai Bang Eee water release gate and the solar-powered groundwater extraction facility in the Dong Mon subdistrict of the Don Tan district.
The deputy premier was updated on the projects and requested the Royal Irrigation Department and the Department of Groundwater Resources to work quickly to complete the work.
The Huai Bang Eee water gate, one of the two water management facilities, may be used to redirect precipitation to reduce floods and save supplies for the dry season. As an added bonus, it can help keep farmland dry by reducing the amount of water that flows into them from the Mekong River.
