Thailand Post Introduces Electronic Post ID

Date:

With its new Digital Post ID service, Thailand Post has created a new method of digitally addressing mail receivers by substituting printed addresses with digital codes.

Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn stated during the opening ceremony that Digital Post ID utilizes a coordinates-based system similar to GPS, enabling postal operators to obtain the precise position of the delivery destination.

The Digital Post ID may also account for verticality, allowing postal employees to determine whether the recipient resides on a high floor.
The new service will be piloted by Thailand Post in early 2019, with a countrywide deployment anticipated in 2024.

Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, the chief executive officer of Thailand Post, indicated that the QR code-based system might one day be printed on all mail and parcels sent by Thailand Post, completely replacing written recipient names and addresses.
According to the chief executive officer of Thailand Post, each number allocated to a particular cargo would be single-use, therefore protecting consumers’ personal information.
