As the number of tourists from abroad continues to rise, the Thai government has mandated stricter safety regulations for visitors.
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, as reported by Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul, has requested that all necessary authorities and tourist operators increase security measures across the country to guarantee the safety of the public.
The spokesman said that it is especially important to ensure the safety of both Thai and international tourists during the peak season so that they would continue to feel comfortable visiting the country.
As of December 5th, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported that 9.78 million foreign visitors have visited Thailand this year, with the 10 millionth visitor expected to arrive on December 10th.
Ministry of Tourism and Sports statistics shows a meteoric rise from 6.7 million in 2021 to approximately 40 million in 2019.
