Pattaya held a meeting to review preparations for its three-day “Countdown Festival” at the end of the month.
Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampiches stated that the city has tasked all relevant local units with preparing equipment and staff to prevent key roads from becoming crowded during New Year’s Eve celebrations. This decision follows a three-year pause caused by the pandemic.
Pattaya had previously conducted a countdown celebration in 2021, albeit one that was substantially smaller than in prior years and subject to a number of limitations that limited audience size. This year, such restrictions have been eliminated and the repertoire of musicians has been expanded. Officials predict that throngs will return to Bali Hai Pier between December 29 and December 31.
Pattaya officials have also declared that they will limit the number of guests at each event to prevent the chance of a crowd crush akin to the recent catastrophe at a South Korean Halloween festival.
