Somsak Thepsuthin, the Justice Minister, has stated that all prisons and juvenile detention institutions around the country will be available for visits by detainees’ relatives for the New Year’s holiday.
The justice minister said that all correctional institutions under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections will be open for family visits between December 30, 2022, and January 2, 2023, as a New Year’s present to inmates and their relatives. Each visitor is obliged by the Ministry of Public Health to rigorously follow disease control protocols.
From December 19 through January 8, the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection has also arranged for parents and relatives who are unable to see their loved ones in juvenile detention institutions to meet them remotely via video conferences, with each session lasting 45 minutes.
Minister Somsak went on to say that the visits are part of the government’s attempts to allow offenders to spend the New Year with loved ones while serving their sentences, reducing stress and loneliness.
