The Central World shopping mall in Bangkok has new tourist safety and promotion personnel thanks to a ceremony presided over by Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.
In all, the monarchy welcomed almost 11 million international visitors in 2018, with around 2 million arriving this month alone. There have been almost 30 million domestic journeys made by Thais, and the country anticipates a total of 1.5 trillion baht from tourism in 2022. Furthermore, the government has said that 20 million international visitors are expected in the coming year.
Minister Phipat has advised businesses and service providers to charge visitors the same prices as native Thais in an effort to boost Thailand’s reputation as a welcoming destination ahead of China’s projected “reopen” on January 8.
About a hundred policemen and police dogs will be stationed in strategic areas across the kingdom to ensure the safety of visitors during the New Year’s celebrations, as announced by the Tourist Police Bureau. According to the Tourist Police Bureau, more attention will be paid to places hosting countdown celebrations.
