The Inspection of the Central Terminal Station Prior to the Start of Service

Date:

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has been given strict instructions by the Ministry of Transportation to have the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station operational by January 19.

Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (also known as Bang Sue Grand Station) services are expected to go off without a hitch according to the Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob’s directives to the SRT and affiliated agencies. On January 19, 52 long-distance trains from the northern, southern, and northeastern lines will launch from the Central Terminal.

According to the minister, officials are planning to move these long-distance lines from Hua Lamphong Station to the Grand Station in an effort to reduce traffic in Bangkok. From this station, passengers may access the SRT Dark Red Line, which runs directly to and from Don Meuang International Airport, as well as the capital city’s public bus system, which has been upgraded to better handle passengers.

The minister also mentioned that an agreement had been made with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority to roll out a shared ticketing system for tourists this month.
