Gen. Prawit welcomes the Iranian ambassador and extends an invitation to Iranian tourists

In a meeting with the Iranian ambassador, Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon addressed the potential for closer ties between his country and Iran. And now that the Covid crisis has been resolved, he’s encouraging people from Iran to visit Thailand.

Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon, the Deputy Prime Minister, received Iranian Ambassador Seyed Reza Nobakhti during a courtesy call. The two leaders talked on how to best advance Thai-Iranian ties. General Prawit has pledged Thai government support for maintaining and expanding the bilateral relationship. He also stated that the Thai government would welcome the opportunity to foster collaboration in the areas of defense, energy, economy, commerce, agriculture, society, culture, and public health. The government would also try to promote the exchange of Thai rice for Iranian fertilizers as a stepping stone for the trading of other commodities.

The Thai government has also formally requested Iran’s backing for Phuket’s bid to host the 2028 International Specialized Exhibition.

There has been a marked improvement in the COVID-19 situation, and Iranian visitors are being encouraged to visit Thailand in increasing numbers. Gen. Prawit has stated that Thailand is now prepared to receive visitors from all around the world.

H.E. Mr. Seyed Reza Nobakhti expressed gratitude to Gen. Prawit for the kind reception he had received. He promised his backing for Iranian engagement with the Thai government and people.
