On January 15, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will organize an auction for satellite orbital slot packages; three companies have qualified to participate.
According to the NBTC, the companies bidding for orbital slot packages are Space Tech Innovation Company, National Telecommunications Public Company, and Prom Technical Services Company.
Air Marshal Thanapant Raicharoen, a member of the NBTC, said that the auction will utilize a sequential ascending clock auction, in which bidders set requested amounts against predetermined price increments. A simulated auction will be held on January 14, one day before the actual sale on January 15.
Air Marshal Thanapant remarked that the NBTC’s first objective in organizing the auction is the public’s best interests, since one of the terms of reference mandates the winner to allow the government to use one broadcast transponder and one 400 Mbps data broadband channel per satellite. In addition, he rejected the notion that National Telecommunications be handed the slot packages, arguing that doing so would violate the Constitution’s restriction on monopolistic business and risk ramifications from the International Telecommunications Union.
The NBTC guarantees that the bid will be open and devoid of collusion.
