The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled its strategic direction for 2023, beginning its “Visit Thailand Year 2023” campaign to attract more tourists and increase the country’s income to up to 2.38 trillion baht. Despite global uncertainty, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn is sure that this campaign would help boost tourism.
The campaign, which was originally scheduled for 2021-2023, has been pushed back to this year due to a variety of issues in 2022. TAT intends to deploy tourist expenditure stimulation tactics in order to develop high-value and sustainable tourism.
The overseas market is expected to account for 65% of the 2.38 trillion baht, with the local market accounting for 35%. TAT has identified three areas for tourism supply development: experience-based tourism, improved safety and service standards, and the creation of a smart tourist ecosystem. The agency has also requested that the 45-day tourist visa stay be extended till the end of 2023.
The short-haul sector, which accounted for 67.6% of the 11.8 million international visits last year, is projected to be critical to tourism revival, according to TAT. The agency will concentrate on two important markets: China and nations with a population of more than one million people, such as Malaysia, South Korea, and India.
TAT also intends to help operators in increasing chartered flights from secondary cities or regions that do not have direct flights in order to attract pent-up demand following the epidemic.
