To commemorate the forthcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, a light-up celebration was staged on Yaowarat Road, widely known as Bangkok’s Chinatown, on Monday (16 January).
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight on January 14 to February 15, 200 meters of Yaowarat Road will be decked with lights, including a 45-meter-long light tunnel and lanterns of various types (TAT).
After the event, Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said that the TAT will arrange Lunar New Year celebrations in four more provinces, including Phuket and Songkhla.
“The Chinese New Year is one of the most significant festivals celebrated in Thailand,” he said, adding that he expects more Chinese travelers this year.
The Lunar New Year mood prevails on Yaowarat Road, where many individuals of Chinese origin reside and do business, attracting both Thai and foreign visitors.
This year’s Chinese Lunar New Year falls on January 22, ushering in the Year of the Rabbit.
