Government releases a report on the crackdown on cybercrime in 2022

According to the authorities, approximately 60,000 bank accounts were frozen last year, while nearly 120,000 phone lines were blocked for use in criminal operations.

According to government spokesman Rachada Dhnadirek, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has joined forces with police and other organizations to combat cybercrime. She claimed that in 2022, 166 people from eight international contact center gangs were detained, while 58,463 bank accounts and 118,530 phone lines were discovered to be utilized for illicit operations and were blocked by police. Last year, eight unlawful account-trading organizations on social media and 1,830 gambling websites were also taken down.

Meanwhile, between March 1 and December 31 of last year, 163,091 complaints were registered on the police website, totalling roughly 27.3 billion baht in damages. 51% of these complaints are about international contact center gangs, 40.5% about local internet frauds, and 8.5% about other cybercrimes.

The spokeswoman emphasized that the government is emphasizing countering cybercrime, which has increased quickly in recent years, and that associated ministries are collaborating with international bodies to address this issue.
