According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), the number of automobiles manufactured in Thailand increased by 2.75 percent year over year in December to 158,606 units, following a 15 percent increase in November.
According to Surapong Paisitpattanapong, a spokesman for FTI’s automotive industry section, manufacturing of automobiles rose by 11.73% to 1.88 million units in 2022.
FTI reports that in December, shipments of automobiles increased to 111,605 units, a 10.17 percent year-over-year increase. As a result of a shortage of semiconductors in some automobile models and floods in sections of the country, domestic car sales fell 9.02% from a year earlier, to 82,799 units.
The FTI said that in 2022, both domestic and international sales of automobiles grew.
The likes of Toyota and Honda use Thailand as a regional base for automobile manufacture and export. About 10% of Thailand’s GDP and manufacturing jobs may be attributed to this sector.
