Thailand May Expect More Chinese Visitors, Says Chinese Ambassador

Date:

Han Zhiqiang, China’s ambassador to Thailand, predicts that Chinese visitor arrivals will exceed 300,000 in April, offering a significant boost to the kingdom’s tourism economy.

The statements were made during the ambassador’s recent meeting with Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew to discuss increasing connections between Thailand and China, as well as strategies to enhance tourism to Phuket and beyond. The topic for the meeting covered Thailand’s aim to host the World Expo 2028, the province’s efforts to build sister towns in China, and strategies to enhance tourism between the two countries.

Since China removed its travel restrictions in January, Phuket has become a popular tourist destination, with an average daily arrival of 20,000 Chinese tourists.

In conjunction with the corporate sector, Phuket’s Province Administrative Organization plans to hold a traveling roadshow in Shanghai, Chengdu, and Nanning to promote tourism. The southern province has already built tourist relations with various Chinese towns, including Yantai, Hainan, Ningxia Hui, Guilin, Yanjiang, Xiamen, and the Macau special administrative area.

According to officials, Ambassador Han’s visit is also a welcome step for Phuket’s tourism industry, which has already experienced a large rise in Chinese visitor arrivals since travel restrictions were lifted. The planned traveling roadshow in China is intended to further promote Phuket as a favorite location for Chinese travelers.
