Election Commission emphasizes transparency and urges accurate media coverage for upcoming election

Date:

The Election Commission (EC) has urged the media to spread accurate information about the upcoming election in order to educate the public. The commission also stated that the election will be transparent and fair.

The European Commission hosted a media training session on Monday (10 April), calling for cooperation ahead of the May general election. The media and other relevant agencies, according to EC Secretary-General Sawang Boonmee, play critical roles in promoting the campaign and educating the public about the importance of this election.

Concerned about the transparency of the ballot, which does not include party logos, the secretary-general reiterated that the EC committees had followed the law in this regard.

The ballots must have easily distinguishable candidates, colors, and party-designated numbers, according to the law. The EC will place a vinyl sign in front of each polling place with information about each candidate and political party in a specific constituency.

Furthermore, Sawang stated that the EC will release its official results on election day between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with periodic updates every 30 minutes. The nearly complete results will most likely be available by 10:00 p.m.

Furthermore, he cited flexibility as a primary reason for not using voting tools or applications to report election results. The EC secretary-general also advised people to check media coverage for more recent information.
