Phuket’s Modified Ships as Entertainment Venues Await Approval Amid Growing Tourist Arrivals

Date:

Phuket-based businesses are getting creative in an effort to attract tourists amid an influx of visitors to the area. Some entrepreneurs are modifying ships into entertainment venues, hoping to offer a unique atmosphere that will attract customers. However, local authorities have yet to grant permission for these venues to open as they require legal and safety checks beforehand.

Recently, Capt Krit Khlueapmat, the Deputy Director of Phuket Maritime Enforcement Command Center, led an inspection of Yona Beach Club Phuket, a floating entertainment venue. The inspection included checks on the vessel’s registration, structural integrity, safety features, waste disposal system, potential water pollution risks, and anchor position.

The purpose of the anchor assessment was to ensure that the anchor line would not obstruct maritime traffic or damage coral reefs. Additionally, officials noted that the sale of alcohol and tobacco would be inspected by the provincial excise office, while the provincial Labor Protection and Welfare office would oversee matters related to the staff working onboard the vessel.

Capt Krit expressed confidence in the safety and overall suitability of the venue for opening. However, he emphasized that approval would only be granted after all legal requirements of relevant agencies have been met. As the tourism industry continues to grow in Phuket, ensuring safety and adherence to regulations is of utmost importance.
