The Wan Lai festival in Chonburi province, a two-day celebration of Songkran, concluded on Monday (17 Apr) after a lively atmosphere at Bang Saen Beach, where people gathered to enjoy the water and build sand sculptures.
The event attracted various organizations, including schools, universities, government agencies, private businesses, and local residents who contributed their own sand to construct impressive sand pagodas. The festival aimed to promote the beauty and creativity of Songkran, which is traditionally a time for renewal and new beginnings.
A highlight of this year’s festival was the sand sculpture competition, which drew a large crowd of locals and tourists. Visitors also had the opportunity to participate in traditional Thai games, sample local food and purchase souvenirs from a range of vendors.
Despite the festive mood, traffic jams were reported to have stretched for more than two kilometers along Sukhumvit Road and other nearby routes due to the high number of water trucks at the beach. To ensure safety and order, officials prohibited water trucks from entering Bang Saen Beach and redirected them to Sukhumvit Road. Additionally, the authorities advised participants to play respectfully and to refrain from using high-pressure water guns.
The Wan Lai festival is a significant cultural event that attracts people from all over Thailand and beyond. It showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage and provides an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate.
