Thailand Tourism Fee Implementation Postponed to Ensure Smooth System

Date:

The Thailand Tourism Fee (TTF), a new levy to be imposed on foreign tourists entering Thailand by air, land, or sea, has been postponed from June to September 1, 2023, Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announced. The delay is aimed at ensuring a seamless and efficient TTF system.

Phiphat explained that discussions with airlines are underway to determine the appropriate collection method in compliance with the rules of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). He stressed that the government is committed to working closely with airlines to identify the most suitable method for collecting the TTF.

The TTF, set at 300 baht per person, aims to raise funds to support the tourism industry. Half of the proceeds will be used for promoting domestic tourism, while the other half will be used for tourism development and support.

Phiphat highlighted that the postponement of the TTF implementation date will provide ample time for the government to ensure that the TTF system operates smoothly and effectively. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to the tourism sector’s sustainable growth and development.
