Thai Ministry of Public Health Confident in Healthcare System’s Preparedness for New School Term Amid COVID-19

Date:

The Ministry of Public Health has expressed confidence in Thailand’s healthcare system, assuring that it can handle any new COVID-19 cases that may arise when the new school term begins. According to Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, Permanent Secretary for Public Health, the recent Songkran holiday saw a slight increase in new COVID-19 cases, but the figures remain under control due to the effectiveness of disease control measures currently in place. The ministry remains optimistic that the COVID-19 situation in schools during the new academic term will not pose any safety risks.

Dr Opas cautioned, however, that COVID-19 is likely to remain a seasonal disease, despite the World Health Organization’s declaration that COVID-19 is no longer considered a global health emergency. He also recommended that students receive annual COVID-19 booster shots to strengthen their immunity.

The ministry has also advised children with respiratory illnesses to stay at home and monitor their health until they fully recover. The statement comes ahead of the new school term, which is set to begin in the coming weeks. With Thailand continuing to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff at schools across the country.
