Hua Hin Municipality’s Sustainable Environmental Assessment for the Year 2566

Date:

In a bid to evaluate the sustainable environmental status of Hua Hin Municipality, the Mayor, Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, along with Deputy Mayor, Mr. Attichat Chaisri, participated in the assessment of the city’s sustainable environmental landscape for the year 2566. The assessment took place via a video conference held at the Nares Damrak Room in the Hua Hin Municipal Office.

Hua Hin Municipality had applied to participate in the assessment through the newly developed web-based application, which enables the evaluation of sustainable environmental practices. The Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, had notified the municipality of the schedule for the assessment. Accordingly, the municipal executives, heads of departments, and relevant personnel were required to provide additional information to the assessment committee via video conference. The assessment committee was chaired by Dr. Phrompimon Vorarat, former Director of the Public Participation Division, Department of Environmental Quality Promotion.

During the assessment, Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul presented a summary of the city’s environmental development progress through a video presentation and PowerPoint slides. The presentation showcased notable achievements and innovative urban development initiatives implemented in Hua Hin. The presentation was conducted via the video conference platform and highlighted three significant activities: the “Green City Spotlight” initiative, which focused on the Plastic Waste Recycling Center that produces pillows and beds for patients; the “Natural City Spotlight,” featuring the educational forest area along the Kailash Canal; and the “Low Carbon and Disaster Resilience City Spotlight” of the Intercontinental Hua Hin Resort.

Additionally, Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul, along with the heads of departments, provided further information to the assessment committee, which then summarized the assessment results and offered recommendations for future development in Hua Hin.

The assessment committee praised the efforts of Hua Hin Municipality for its continuous endeavors to transform the city into a sustainable environmental hub. The committee also explained the evaluation process, which involved the inspection of 40 indicators across four dimensions, following the new assessment standards. This year’s assessment was more stringent than previous years, with the municipality aiming to demonstrate its successful environmental management in line with the criteria and achieve a higher score compared to other participating municipalities nationwide. The highest accolade in the program, the “Excellent Sustainable Environmental City” award, was the ultimate goal for Hua Hin Municipality in this year’s assessment.
