Lisa of BLACKPINK Showcases Thai Heritage, Amplifying Thai Soft Power

Date:

In a remarkable demonstration of Thai soft power, Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban, a prominent member of the globally acclaimed K-pop group BLACKPINK, has once again captivated audiences by embracing her Thai roots.

Continuing the momentum of her successful solo debut with ‘LALISA,’ Lisa is using her platform to shine a spotlight on Thai culture. A recent Instagram post showcasing her dressed in traditional Thai attire at an Ayutthaya temple, along with her previous endorsement of “street meatballs,” has sparked a surge in interest, solidifying Thailand’s soft power influence among her 94.5 million followers.

The photos depict Lisa donning authentic local garments as she pays homage at Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya Historical Park. Notably captured in the images is a remarkable Thai landmark—a Buddha head entwined within the roots of a Bodhi tree. The post has received an overwhelming response from fans, many expressing their desire to follow in her footsteps.

Diana Flipo, a prominent actress and close friend of Lisa, also shared photos of Lisa adorned in Thai attire at Wat Maenangpleum in Ayutthaya, accompanied by friends.

These posts have sparked curiosity about the origin of the Thai fabrics worn by Lisa. After thorough research, fans discovered that the fabric, handwoven with meticulous craftsmanship, is locally produced in Udon Thani and supplied by a store owned by Diana’s mother. Consequently, there has been an unprecedented demand for the fabric, leading to sold-out stocks and eager customers placed on waiting lists for the next batch.

The Institute for the Promotion of Thai Handicrafts also joined the conversation by highlighting Lisa’s dress, describing it as the renowned “clay-dyed cotton fabric” from Udon Thani, celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship and cultural significance.
