In the early hours of June 8, 2023, Pol. Lt. Col. Surachet Aneksri, deputy superintendent of the Pattaya City Police Station, led a crackdown on entertainment venues in the Pattaya area. The operation resulted in the apprehension of an illicit karaoke shop situated in Soi Ko Phai, South Pattaya, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. The establishment was found to be operating without proper authorization, engaging in unauthorized liquor sales, and employing foreign nationals without the necessary permits.
Upon inspection, it was observed that the karaoke shop was operating in full swing, with patrons enjoying music and drinks. Law enforcement officials promptly ordered the immediate cessation of all activities, instructing the shutdown of music and lights. The individuals present were then subjected to identification checks, screening for illicit items, and drug tests. While no drug users were detected, it was discovered that five Burmese nationals confessed to working as employees at the venue, claiming their role was to provide companionship to customers seeking solace from loneliness.
Subsequently, the shop owner, along with the five Burmese individuals, was taken into custody by the police. They now face charges related to selling liquor without the necessary permits, operating a service facility without authorization, and employing foreigners without proper documentation. The case will undergo further investigation, and appropriate legal action will be pursued in accordance with the law.
