By capitalizing on the presence of these high-spending visitors, known for their extended stays in Thailand, the city aims to enhance its appeal as a prime destination for Muslim travelers.
Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn of Chiang Mai exudes confidence that the halal food festival will establish itself as a recurring annual event on the province’s bustling tourism calendar. The governor envisions a future where Chiang Mai becomes synonymous with delectable halal cuisine, attracting both local and international tourists seeking a taste of the region’s culinary offerings.
Supamitr Kijjapipat, the President of the Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association, shares Governor Pongsitthavorn’s optimism. Anticipating a significant boost to the local economy, Kijjapipat expects the festival to generate excitement among Thai and foreign visitors alike. With more than 20 halal-certified restaurants participating, the festival will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst for economic growth, while also celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of Chiang Mai.
Beyond the culinary extravaganza, Chiang Mai has embarked on an ambitious campaign to promote various captivating destinations throughout the province. From July to September, under the overarching theme of “Unseen Chiang Mai,” the region’s hidden gems such as Chiang Dao, Mae On, Wiang Haeng, Mae Cham, and Mae Kwang will be highlighted. Governor Pongsitthavorn emphasizes that these promotional efforts will showcase the province’s lush natural landscapes during the wet season, as well as its diverse local culture, traditions, and vibrant ethnic communities.
