Foreign Man’s Daring Climb on Roof of Phra Mahathat Chedi in Phuket Sparks Tense Standoff

In a gripping incident that unfolded on July 7, 2023, a foreign man captured the attention of onlookers as he climbed atop the roof of the renowned Phra Mahathat Chedi in Chaitararam Temple, also known as Chalong Temple, located on Chao Fa Tawan Tok Road in Chalong Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District.

The daring ascent, reaching over 15 meters high, began the previous evening and has continued for more than two hours. Authorities from various agencies are actively engaged in negotiations with the individual, attempting to coax him down safely. However, the man’s behavior remains unpredictable, occasionally showing signs of agitation and threatening to jump.

Concerned for his well-being and the safety of those involved, the Phuket City Municipality Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has taken precautionary measures by deploying an air cushion below, prepared to prevent any unforeseen incidents.

The motive behind the man’s audacious act is still unknown, leaving both officials and spectators anxiously awaiting a resolution to the high-stakes standoff.
