In a joint operation led by Pol. Col. Thanapong Phothi, superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, officers from various units arrested two individuals, Mr. A (20 years old) and Miss B (18 years old), at a residence in Chonburi Province. The raid followed an investigation into a group of individuals exploiting children for begging and peddling in the Pattaya area.
The suspects, accompanied by a small child with a cleft lip and palate, would approach tourists and sell products based on the child’s condition, evoking sympathy and encouraging purchases. The police gathered evidence and obtained arrest warrants from the Chonburi Juvenile and Family Court, charging the suspects with child exploitation.
During questioning, Mr. A admitted that the child was their own and explained that they had no choice but to involve the child in the peddling activities due to the girlfriend’s weak health and the need to support their family financially.
The case highlights the authorities’ commitment to combating child exploitation and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable children in the area. The suspects will face legal consequences for their actions as the investigation continues.
