Thai and Russian Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Global Issues

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Phuket on Saturday (15 July), as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lavrov’s visit to Phuket was in conjunction with the opening of the Consulate-General of Russia on the island.

During their meeting, the two foreign ministers had a productive discussion on various areas of mutual interest. They explored ways to enhance trade relations and promote cooperation in science, technology, innovation, culture, sports, and tourism.

Both sides expressed their support for initiating negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) at the earliest opportunity.

Furthermore, the ministers exchanged views on regional and global issues, including the situations in the Asia-Pacific region, Ukraine, and Myanmar.

The meeting between the Thai and Russian foreign ministers signifies the commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and addressing shared challenges on the international stage.
