Rediscovering Hua Hin’s Past: “Hua Hin Remembrance of Yesterday” Event Beckons

In an exciting nod to the past, the Government of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province is extending a warm invitation to the people of Hua Hin and visitors alike. They are encouraged to step back in time and partake in the upcoming “Hua Hin Remembrance of Yesterday” event, a celebration of the city’s rich history and enduring charm. This event promises to be a vibrant showcase of culture, traditions, and the quintessential way of life that defines Hua Hin.

Major Adisak Noisuwan, Deputy Governor of the Province, acting on behalf of the Governor, announced that the 2023 “Hua Hin Remembrance of Yesterday” event is scheduled to take place from September 22 to October 1, 2023. The enchanting setting for this nostalgic journey will be the sprawling 25-rai activity area behind the Bluport Hua Hin Shopping Center in Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The event is a collaborative effort, organized by the Police Headquarters, Hua Hin Police Station, in partnership with the Hua Hin District Cultural Council and private sector stakeholders. Its primary objectives are to boost tourism and to share the cultural heritage, traditions, and the enviable way of life of Hua Hin.

One of the highlights of the event is the opportunity to don period costumes, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the bygone eras of Thai history. Additionally, visitors can experience the uniqueness of Hua Hin by wearing the renowned Khao Tao hand-woven cloth, crafted by the talented women of the Khao Tao Women’s Weaving Group. This activity not only adds a fun element to the event but also supports local women’s groups in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Whether it’s the Khao Tao woven cloth or the Pa La-u woven cloth, each community’s handiwork boasts its own distinct identity and intricate patterns.

Mr. Worapoj Limakhom, Chairman of the Hua Hin Police Station and the driving force behind “Hua Hin Remembrance of Yesterday,” expressed the significance of this event. Recognizing Hua Hin’s status as a renowned marine tourist destination, cherished for generations, he emphasized the event’s aim to recreate the ambiance of Hua Hin’s yesteryears through period attire. It offers an opportunity to savor the timeless allure and classic essence of Hua Hin—a city celebrated for its unique identity, rich culture, time-honored traditions, and captivating folk games.
