Energy Commission Sets Electricity Unit Price at Bt4.18 for Jan-April

Date:

In a recent development, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has announced the fuel tariff (FT) surcharge on electricity for the January through April period, fixing it at 39.72 satang per unit, while establishing the electricity unit price at 4.18 baht. The adjustment in the pricing formula for natural gas and electricity prompted this decision.

The secretary-general of the ERC, Komkrit Tantravanich, clarified that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the nation’s major power producer, will shoulder an estimated loss of 15 billion baht during this four-month period due to the specified FT and electricity unit prices.

Additionally, Tantravanich revealed that the ERC will utilize the 4.3 billion baht fine collected from natural gas producers in the Gulf of Thailand, who failed to fulfill their contractual gas delivery obligations. This fine will serve as a subsidy to alleviate the impact on the electricity unit price.

To ease the burden on household consumers, especially those using no more than 300 units of electricity per month, a subsidized rate of 3.99 baht/unit will be applied. The government will extend support through subsidies totaling approximately 1.95 billion baht, ensuring that consumers within this usage bracket receive financial relief.
