Committee Convenes to Address Hua Hin Beach Encroachment

Date:

On April 1, 2024, a significant gathering convened to confront the pressing matter of encroachment upon the pristine shores of Hua Hin beach, specifically within the Saphan Pla – Chao Mae Tubtim Shrine area. Spearheaded by Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, Mayor of Hua Hin City, and Mr. Ongkharak Thongniramon, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, the assembly marked a pivotal moment in addressing the encroachment crisis. This high-stakes meeting, held at the Naresdamri Room of the Hua Hin Municipality Office, brought together a coalition of key stakeholders, including Mr. Jeerawat Pramanee, Permanent Secretary of the Municipality, and Sergeant Eklikit Nunin, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Municipality, alongside representatives from pertinent agencies.

The impetus for this gathering stemmed from a directive issued in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province mandating the formation of a dedicated committee tasked with investigating and rectifying encroachment issues plaguing the area. This proactive response underscores a concerted effort to preserve and protect public assets, particularly against illicit appropriation and occupation. The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated, as it not only reflects a critical governmental policy but also captures the attention and concern of the wider public.

Central to the committee’s agenda is the meticulous examination of the encroachment saga, which has seen a portion of the Saphan Pla – Chao Mae Tubtim Shrine area overrun with unauthorized structures. With a total of 40 buildings under scrutiny, the committee has already taken decisive action, overseeing the demolition of 14 of these structures. However, the task at hand remains far from complete, with 26 buildings still standing as stark reminders of the encroachment’s enduring impact.

As discussions unfold and strategies are deliberated upon, the overarching goal remains clear: to restore the sanctity of Hua Hin beach and safeguard its status as a cherished public asset. Through collaborative efforts and resolute action, the committee aims to uphold the principles of accountability and stewardship, ensuring that the beauty and accessibility of Hua Hin beach endure for generations to come.
