Don Mueang Airport Readies for Songkran Travel Surge

Date:

Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok is preparing for a surge in travelers during the upcoming Songkran holiday period. Anticipating a 10.58% increase in passenger numbers compared to last year, airport general manager Wichit Kaewsaitiam attributes this rise to the government’s initiatives aimed at stimulating domestic spending and tourism.

Scheduled from April 11 to 17, over 4,000 flights are expected to land at Don Mueang Airport during this period. Of these, 2,432 are domestic flights while the rest are international, collectively bringing an estimated 625,530 passengers to the capital.

To accommodate this influx of travelers, the airport has implemented several upgrades focused on enhancing both passenger experience and safety. These upgrades include the introduction of self-service check-in counters, a common-use bag drop system, a new passenger validation system, and self-boarding gates.

Additionally, for the convenience of arriving passengers, the airport has streamlined the transfer process to the city. Options such as Grab and Cabb are available online, along with the SRT Red Line and feeder buses providing connectivity to Bangkok’s electric train routes.

Furthermore, the airport offers two car parks with space for 3,508 vehicles, along with shuttle buses operating 24/7 between the car parks and terminals. Officials assure that these measures ensure the airport is well-prepared for the anticipated surge in holiday travelers.

As the holiday period approaches, authorities are confident in the airport’s ability to manage the increased traffic efficiently, ensuring a smooth travel experience for all passengers.
