In a significant move to mitigate road accidents during one of Thailand’s most celebrated festivals, Governor Somkid Chanthamaruk presided over the unveiling of the Operations Center for Preventing and Reducing Road Accidents on April 9, 2024. The ceremony, held at the Provincial Hall in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, was graced by key dignitaries including Deputy Governor Mr. Sinathorn O-iam, Permanent Secretary Mr. Preeda Sukjai, and Acting Head of the Prachuap Province Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Mr. Thanawat Ruangdet. The attendance of representatives from various government agencies, military personnel, police officials, local government organizations, and volunteers underscored the collective resolve to ensure safe travels for citizens and tourists alike during the festive period.

With the aim of minimizing road accidents and fatalities, especially along critical thoroughfares like Phetkasem Road, the campaign titled “Drive safely. Thailand without accidents” has been meticulously planned to enforce stringent safety measures from April 11 to 17, 2024. Governor Somkid Chanthamaruk emphasized the center’s pivotal role in reducing accident rates and fatalities, thereby safeguarding the well-being of the populace. The initiative places a significant emphasis on enforcing laws pertaining to drinking and driving and mandating helmet usage for motorcycle riders. Notably, civil servants and individuals are urged to adhere to these safety protocols diligently. Additionally, the center will provide essential public services, including refreshments and cooling towels, to ensure the comfort and well-being of officials and travelers alike.
