On Thursday, a press event at Dusit Thani Hua Hin announced the launch of a new U19 football tournament, “Copa Tailandesa,” aimed at showcasing emerging talent. The tournament, set to take place from June 16th to 18th, was introduced by Thai Cave rescue hero Coach Eakapol Jantawong, known as Coach Eak, from “The Wild Boars.”
The three-day competition at Arena Hua Hin will feature four teams, including Coach Eak’s own “Eakapol Academy” from Mae Sai and the “Academia de Real Internacional” from Malaga, Spain. The Spanish Academy is renowned for developing talent for La Liga clubs. The event will also include training sessions with the Spanish Academy, a beach penalty shoot-out competition, and a celebration Latin Party on June 18th at The Stable, Dusit Thani Hua Hin.
The Latin Party will feature Manchester United legend Brian McClair as a special guest. McClair, known for his role as Director of the Manchester United Youth team, will present the trophy to the winners of “Copa Tailandesa” and other awards to inspire local players. Former Minister of Tourism and Sports, Senator Weerasak Kowsurat, who re-launched the Thai FA Cup in 2009, will also present awards. The event will include a speech by McClair and a charity auction of signed Manchester United shirts to benefit underprivileged children.
Five members of the Wild Boars team will participate in “Copa Tailandesa” as part of Coach Eak’s Academy side. British cave rescue hero Vern Unsworth, M.B.E., will give a special presentation titled “Never Give Up” on June 17th at Dusit Thani Hua Hin.
Coach Eak expressed his excitement about the tournament, stating, “I feel very pleased and grateful to join in this tournament. It will be a good opportunity for the youngsters. I also want to continue my career as a player and thank the organizers for giving us this opportunity.”
Will Robinson, British music producer and co-organizer of the tournament from “The Isan Project,” added, “It’s a great opportunity for local talent to get noticed. We have scouts interested and some people traveling from overseas.”
Pipat Patthananusorn, General Manager of Dusit Thani Hua Hin, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “We are thrilled to extend an invitation for a momentous event that celebrates the spirit of resilience, courage, and camaraderie.
