Thailand Aims for World Cup Qualifier Wins in China

Date:

The Thailand national football team, under the leadership of head coach Masatada Ishii, departed for China on Sunday, June 2. The team aims to secure crucial victories in their upcoming Group C matches of the Asian zone qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The first match against China will take place in Shenyang on June 6, followed by a home game against Singapore on June 11 at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium.

Currently, Thailand stands third in the group with four points, behind China with seven points and group leader South Korea with ten points. Singapore sits at the bottom of the group with just one point. To advance to the next qualifying stage, Thailand must win both of their remaining matches, as the top two teams from each of the nine groups move forward.

Coach Ishii expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and adaptability, emphasizing that they have modified their strategy to counter the changes in the Chinese team’s coaching and playing style since their last encounter. “We have analyzed the new tactics and are ready to face China with a fresh approach,” Ishii stated.

Veteran striker Teerasil Dangda, a key player for Thailand, shared his thoughts on the significance of the upcoming matches. He hinted that these qualifiers might be his last World Cup campaign due to his advancing age. “These matches are very personal for me, and I am fully committed to giving my best performance,” Dangda said.

The upcoming match against China will be broadcast live on Thairath TV (Channel 32) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6.

In attendance at the send-off were several officials and supporters, underscoring the importance of these matches for Thailand’s World Cup aspirations. The football community eagerly awaits to see if the national team can rise to the challenge and secure their place in the next round of qualifiers.
