Two Indian Tourists Arrested in Pattaya for Theft on First Day

Date:

PATTAYA—In the early hours of September 5, Pattaya Tourist Police apprehended two Indian nationals, identified as Mr. Abhishek, 29, and Mr. Akash, 28, on suspicion of stealing a camera battery from a fellow countryman. The incident occurred on Walking Street, a popular area in Pattaya City.

According to police reports, the suspects allegedly stole the camera battery belonging to Mr. Shaik, 34, also an Indian national. The theft took place in a cannabis shop located in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. CCTV footage shows that Mr. Shaik had placed his camera battery pack on a sofa inside the shop while browsing. During this time, three tourists, including the two suspects, entered the store. The footage reveals that one suspect sat on top of the battery pack, while the other discreetly took it and placed it in a bag. The pair remained seated for a while before leaving to avoid raising suspicion.

Upon discovering the theft, Mr. Shaik immediately reported the incident to Pattaya City Police. Tourist police, stationed nearby on Walking Street, were quickly notified. They reviewed the CCTV footage from both the shop and the surrounding area. Rather than fleeing, the suspects were found still casually walking along Walking Street.

When approached by the police, the two men attempted to return the stolen battery, claiming they had found it on the ground. However, police officers, having reviewed the surveillance footage, were unconvinced by their story. The suspects were taken into custody and brought to the Tourist Police Station for further questioning.

Confronted with clear evidence from the CCTV footage, both suspects admitted to the theft. They had only arrived in Thailand the previous day and were in possession of the stolen camera battery, valued at approximately 5,000 baht.

The two men were subsequently transferred to the Pattaya City Police Station, where they face formal charges of theft. Several officials were involved in the case, including local tourist police and station investigators, who will proceed with the legal process.
