Monopoly is set to unveil its latest version, Monopoly: Bangkok Edition, on 2 November, marking the third installment in the Thailand series of the globally popular board game. The new edition promises to highlight Bangkok’s vibrant culture through custom-designed tokens and landmarks, and will debut at a special event held at Central World, followed by an exclusive after-party.
The Bangkok Edition, created by Winning Moves UK under license from Hasbro and in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), introduces six newly designed tokens that capture the essence of life in Thailand’s bustling capital. Players can expect to see iconic Bangkok symbols such as mango sticky rice, a tuk-tuk, and Muay Thai boxing gloves, all of which reflect the city’s rich culinary, cultural, and sporting heritage.
Speaking about the collaboration, TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasized that the edition will celebrate Bangkok’s unique charm by showcasing its cultural landmarks, street markets, and luxury accommodations. “This edition truly encapsulates the essence of Bangkok, from its bustling streets to its deep-rooted traditions,” she said.
The game tokens include:
- Mango Sticky Rice: Honoring one of Thailand’s most beloved desserts.
- Muay Thai Boxing Gloves: Representing the nation’s revered martial art.
- A Suitcase: A symbol of Bangkok’s appeal to both local and international travelers.
- A Moped: Capturing the fast-paced lifestyle of the city.
- A Backpack: Ideal for travelers exploring Bangkok’s hidden gems.
- A Tuk-Tuk: Perhaps the most recognizable mode of transportation in the city.
The public is invited to the unveiling event at Central World’s craftstudiO, located on the 5th floor, where attendees will have the chance to see the game in action, participate in contests, and win prizes. Additionally, there will be a photo opportunity with the iconic Mr. Monopoly. Following the launch, an exclusive after-party will be hosted at the Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok hotel.
This latest version of Monopoly follows the Chiang Mai Edition (2023) and the Phuket Edition (2022), and will be available for purchase at Asia Books and other retail outlets.
The event will see key figures from TAT and representatives from Winning Moves UK in attendance, celebrating the collaboration that brings the spirit of Bangkok to life through the world’s most famous board game.
