A mountain bike belonging to a well-known Pattaya cable TV reporter was stolen from his apartment in Soi Thesaban 1, Huai Yai, Bang Lamung, Chon Buri Province. The theft, captured on a surveillance camera, occurred in the early hours of October 17. Footage shows a man, believed to be Thai, dressed in a black shirt and shorts, carrying a black backpack and holding a bag of sticky rice and pork. The man scouted the area before dragging out the bicycle, calmly using a nearby air pump to inflate the tires, and then riding off.
The victim, 61-year-old Mr. Prasert Phrainangkun, said he usually parks his 15,000-baht Twitter mountain bike under the apartment building for exercise but had not used it recently due to work commitments. He was asleep when the theft occurred. The surprising detail was that the thief left behind the bag of sticky rice and pork, possibly as a gesture of respect. Mr. Prasert suspects the culprit may be a homeless person living nearby.
He has since filed a complaint at the Huai Yai Police Station, asking authorities to track down the thief. Mr. Prasert also warned others to be vigilant, particularly during tough economic times, as even unexpected items can become targets for thieves looking to sell them.
