Bangkok Introduces Discounted Garbage Collection Fees for Households Sorting Waste

Date:

Bangkok has introduced a new waste collection fee structure that rewards households for sorting their rubbish. The Bangkok Council approved the initiative, which will reduce fees for participants from a 60-baht monthly rate to just 20 baht. Households that do not sort waste will pay the standard 60 baht.

The new bill replaces the 2019 flat rate of 80 baht per household, which city officials now consider outdated. Bangkok Deputy Governor Jakkapan Phiewngam stated that the draft will become law in about six months, following its publication in the Royal Gazette.

To access the discounted rate, residents must register through an application or at district cleaning offices. City officials will conduct periodic checks to ensure compliance, though specific details about the app have not yet been provided. This new policy aims to promote sustainable waste management and support Bangkok’s environmental goals.
