In the early hours of November 4, 2014, at approximately 02:06, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Center in Pattaya responded to an emergency report of a person who had fallen from a height and sustained injuries. The incident occurred at a hotel located in the Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District of Chonburi Province. Rescue volunteers from the center were promptly dispatched to the scene to investigate the situation.
Upon arrival, they found the area filled with distressed tourists and local residents. The victim, later identified as 51-year-old British national Paul Hadfield, was discovered on the ceiling of a nearby game shop with his legs protruding through. Witnesses reported hearing cries for help in English from the injured individual, prompting rescue personnel to extract him from the roof, administer first aid, and transport him to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
A preliminary examination revealed that Mr. Hadfield had fallen from the second-floor balcony of the adjacent hotel, crashing through the game shop’s roof. Inside room 210 on the hotel’s second floor, where Mr. Hadfield had stayed, rescue workers noted a considerable amount of fecal matter scattered across the bed and floor, which had led to a strong odor in the area.
According to a witness, 28-year-old Mr. Somrak, who was inside the game shop, he heard a loud noise resembling an impact on the roof. Looking up, he noticed the legs of an unknown person hanging down from the ceiling and immediately alerted rescue workers.
The initial investigation suggested that the tourist was intoxicated at the time of the fall. However, it remains unclear how he exited the room and ended up falling from the balcony. Fortunately, despite the fall, Mr. Hadfield sustained only minor injuries.
