Child Rescued After Arm Trapped in Pool Pipe for Over Two Hours

Date:

On the evening of November 3, 2014, a young girl’s arm became trapped in a pool pipe for more than two hours at Phra Thep Village in Sriracha District, Chonburi Province, sparking a tense and prolonged rescue effort. The Sawang Prateep Sriracha Rescue Unit received a report at 5:30 p.m., prompting a rapid response from rescue workers armed with cutting and prying equipment.

At the scene, rescuers found the girl in distress, her left arm lodged in a whirlpool pipe used to filter the pool water. Her father stayed by her side, providing comfort throughout the ordeal. Witnesses explained that the girl had accidentally placed her arm into the pipe, which was about 1.5 inches wide, where it became stuck due to the suction from the pool’s filtration system.

Rescue workers and local villagers quickly began efforts to lower the water level, scooping water out with buckets to give the team easier access. The rescue operation required extensive coordination and precision, with the team using an electric drill to carefully break through the concrete around the pipe. Once the area was prepared, they cut through the PVC pipe, successfully freeing the girl’s arm.

The girl was then taken to a nearby hospital in Sriracha District for further evaluation. Initial investigations suggest that the accident may have occurred due to the absence of a cover on the intake pipe, coupled with the suction force from the pool’s water pump. Community members and officials have since praised the collaborative rescue efforts, expressing relief that the child was rescued safely.
