On November 5, 2024, Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Somkid Chantamaruk visited several high-risk areas within the province to assess flood prevention measures amid warnings of heavy rainfall and strong winds. The visit was prompted by a recent notification from the Department of Public Safety and the Central Directorate, alerting local authorities to the potential for severe weather and flooding in vulnerable areas.
Governor Somkid inspected several districts, beginning in Bang Saphan Noi. This area, home to about 200 households and the Nam Kem Canal near the railway station, is notably low-lying and prone to water accumulation. Local officials reported that water pumps have been installed and volunteers are actively monitoring the area.

In Bang Saphan District, officials focused on drainage systems at the water control gates and the Klong Lat drainage gate. These facilities are essential in managing water flow to prevent flooding in economically significant zones, including Pongprasat, Birth Noppakun, and Mae Ram Phueng sub-districts. Additional surveillance points have been established, including around Wang Yao Bridge, where a flood protection system featuring five waterproof doors and four pumps with automated drainage capabilities are in place.
In Thap Sakae District, officials are addressing water drainage at the site near Ang Thong Temple in the Ang Thong Sub-district. Measures are also in place by the Highway District to restrict traffic temporarily in cases where drainage could lead to hazardous road conditions.

Governor Somkid expressed confidence in the province’s preparations, highlighting the coordinated efforts by the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division and the National Disaster Management Agency. Authorities have reinforced drainage systems, installed structural protections, and ensured the availability of pumps to mitigate potential flooding. The Provincial Police Office is designated as the lead agency to coordinate response efforts with all districts, with ongoing monitoring set to continue in accordance with Central Directorate guidelines.
In addition to the governor, the visit included Deputy Governor Sinathorn Oh Iam, Provincial Police Chief Thanawat Ruangdej, and representatives from local government and irrigation projects, who reviewed the preparedness measures in each area.
