In a concerted effort to protect Thailand’s marine environment, Region 1 Marine Police joined forces with local divers on November 5, 2024, at Koh Yo, Sattahip, for a beach and underwater garbage collection activity. Led by Rear Admiral Chainan Chu Mai, Deputy Director of the Maritime Interests Protection Center Region 1, the initiative aims to clean up marine debris, including discarded fishing gear that can entangle coral reefs, as part of a broader conservation mission.
Personnel from the 1st Marine Operations Center collaborated with members of the Marine Environment Conservation Divers (MCO) and other volunteers to remove waste from both the sea and shore. Beyond waste removal, the activities also involved installing mooring buoys, which help prevent anchor damage to coral reefs and support the long-term protection of marine resources. The conservation team emphasized the importance of these efforts in restoring marine ecosystems, particularly around coral-rich areas that are vulnerable to pollution and physical damage.
The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) highlighted its role in overseeing and coordinating national marine conservation efforts, stressing that protecting Thailand’s maritime interests is essential for the nation’s long-term security, prosperity, and environmental health.
