Some of us adore it, some of us can take it or leave it and some of us cannot or don’t like to eat it.
Beef, the rich and hearty meat packed with, iron and vitamin B12 might be a regular on the plate as part of a staple diet or a once-in-a-while steak in a fancy restaurant. This has often been the case in many countries where a hungry carnivore has to go to a fancy restaurant to get that juicy, tasty and satisfying red meat fix and more often than not, has to budget for it too with prices in many places often being sky high. With that said many of us will satisfy our cow craving with a decent and comforting burger. That’s all very well and sometimes there’s nothing quite like a well-cooked and good quality burger, but sometimes having a proper steak or delicate tartare is the ultimate stomach pleaser.
If lucky enough we might find a nice restaurant that produces good quality, fresh and tasty steaks and other beef delights at prices that don’t require a small bank loan. Beef Town Eatery & Grill is one of those places.
The small and quaint restaurant is located within the u-shaped compound in front of the Dusit D2 hotel neighboring other small shops some other eateries and real estate agents, Beef Town proudly sits at the end of the row close to the Hotel with ample parking space. The 21-seat restaurant (two tables outside and 4 tables inside with bar seating) has a warm and natural feel with earth-tone walls decorated with hunger and thirst-inducing photos of perfectly cooked cuts of meat.
If the subtle yet enticing decor isn’t enough to make one hungry then the TV behind the bar that plays a looping video of expert chefs seasoning, grilling and putting together yummy dishes will start the stomach to rumble.
There is a cooler cabinet in the corner, where diners can pick and choose their raw cuts, all priced individually according to their weight, before being sent off to the Chef and Owner battling the heat outside in front of the charcoal barbecue where he lovingly sizzles each cut to perfection.
For those who want to just order from the menu navigating through the menu doesn’t take a degree in cartography with dishes spread over a huge board,, instead, the menu is simple easy and laid out page by page that will include something for everyone.
With an ample selection of appetizers, soups, pasta, sandwiches and burgers, various beef cuts and a section called “Specialities” that offers a, more than adequate selection, of non-beef dishes that are certainly not an afterthought of the main offering this restaurant showcases with dishes such as “Seared Duck Breast with Citrus Dressing” or “Ostrich Steak in Brandy and hot pepper sauce”.
What catches the eye is a selection of mouthwatering dishes under the heading: “Smoked Plate” with dishes such as; “3 Hour Slow Cooked Wagyu Finger Rib”, “Smoked Wagyu Beef Tongue” or “Braised Lamb Shank in Red Wine Jus” really makes decision making a challenge.
What I thoroughly enjoyed:
Beef Tartar (350thb)
150gr of fresh and beautifully tender fillet with a subtle spice flavour. The beef was perfectly served at room temperature and not overpowered with unnecessary ingredients. But beware, although the tartare is subtle in flavour the delicious garlic aioli will certainly take care of any vampires in the area. A perfect combination for a classic dish.
Scallops With Truffle Avocado Guacamole (450thb)
Each of the 3 perfectly pan-seared scallops rested atop a delicious and generous-sized cushion of crushed avocado and chopped tomato with a welcomed hidden surprise of fresh red chilli. If that isn’t enough to impress there’s also at least a teaspoon of caviar to top each joyful and very pleasing-to-the-eye combination. The fresh and tasty rocket, tomato and balsamic dressed salad on the side makes this a very beautiful and tasty appetizer.
Smoked Picanha Paella (Monthly Special)
Truly a wow dish! Tasty, succulent and flavorful slices of smoked and grilled rump set comfortably on a very large flatbed of perfectly cooked paella. The dish arrives at the table with all the entertainment with sizzles, smoke and smell from the red hot cast iron plate. There’s a slightly charred crust of paella formed on the base that some might leave or, as I did, mix in with the rice to give a wonderfully smoky charred flavour.
Thai Wagyu Strip-loin (Priced by weight)
Having monitored the progress of Thai beef over the last 16 years from being tasty but, as my father would say, “As though as old boots” to being now comparable to beef in many other countries where steaks have been consumed for decades. Cooked to perfection, succulent and very tender.
Although by this time the fear of my shirt button shooting across the room as a result of a very packed belly (was brought up to never waste food), I nearly passed out when they said that dessert was next.
For someone who rarely orders desserts, I was not that excited, until it arrived. Wow!
Tiramisu with Tiramisu Ice cream (220gr)
It’s as good as it looks! Not too sweet but delicious and the homemade ice cream is fluffy and light.
In conclusion, Chef Leo has ticked all the boxes in building a restaurant business that gives a satisfying dining experience to all guests with high quality and delicious dishes at unbeatable value served by very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff in a very relaxed and comfortable space.
The selection of dishes and low prices means diners can keep coming back regularly instead of only on special occasions when an excuse is needed to settle a big bill.
