A neighborhood in Samut Prakan was shaken on Monday night, November 25, 2024, when a man opened fire on a neighboring family, killing four people, including himself, and critically injuring a seven-year-old girl. The tragedy unfolded around 9 p.m. at a house located behind the Samutprakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo in tambon Thai Ban, Muang district.
The deceased include Thongsee Niyompok, 69, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, her 43-year-old daughter Rattanapak Niyompok, and Rattanapak’s ex-husband, Wassana Jaithiang, 45. The couple’s seven-year-old daughter, who suffered severe injuries to her chest, arms, and back, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The gunman, 63-year-old Pisit Lamplee, shot himself in the temple after the attack and later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, two magazines, and 18 spent shells at the scene.
CCTV footage revealed Pisit arriving on a motorcycle before gunfire erupted. Witness accounts suggest a dispute preceded the violence. The injured child stated that Pisit had quarreled with her mother, Rattanapak, before opening fire on the family.
According to Thanin Lamplee, Pisit’s son, the two families had been close neighbors, and his father had a disagreement with Rattanapak. Authorities suspect financial issues or a personal relationship conflict may have motivated the shooting.
The house where the incident occurred was rented by Rattanapak’s family. A neighbor noted that Pisit and Rattanapak had often shared drinks. Police said Rattanapak had borrowed 80,000 baht from Pisit and reportedly lent it to others, sparking tensions between them.
The ceremony was attended by local police officials, including Pol Col Chutradul Yosmadee, who confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the precise motive behind the tragedy.
